What to do with your child's gently used toys ?

Your children have grown up now and they have collected quite a lot of plush toys and play materials over the years. Now, as a parent you would like to make way for new items on their wish list.  But,what could you do to get rid of their old stuff ?

This link provides you with some ideas to donate your stuffed animals. As a SLP, i would like to share my ideas for a good use of gently used plush toys and play materials.

1. Visit a neighborhood nursing home , meet with the senior residents and give them a stuffed toy and a word of love. They appreciate you holding their hands for a moment and wishing them a speedy recovery. These toys are very comforting to them .

2.Visit a neighborhood mental health skilled nursing facility and meet with the residents there.

3. Call your local school district's special education department or  therapy department in nearby schools and inquire whether they'd like to accept the gently used toys. Most therapy departments would like to use a variety of toys like construction puzzles, train sets etc.,  in their therapy activities.

4. Give away your used gently used play items to a nearby rehab /therapy clinic. Most speech /occupational therapy clinics would like to expand their collection of items.

5. Consider  the concept of ReGIFTING !     National Regifting Day is an annual observance held each year on the Thursday before Christmas but you can regift any time of the year.

Hope these suggestions are helpful. If you have a thought, please share in the comments section :)
